After doing some YouTube research, I was convinced I needed to replace my timing belt tensioner. After buying the part, I truly thought it was 2 bolts and maybe a 15 minute job.
I quickly realized that you could easily remove the tensioner, but you could not install the new one without removing the entire timing belt cover. That 15 minute timeline I told my wife was a mistake.
So if you've watched my other videos, you'll know by now I'm cheap and this job was no exception. I get the whole thing apart, replace the tensioner, put it all back together, and the sound is still there.
Three days, a rental car and alot of swearing later, I took it all apart again and replaced the timing belt, pullies, and water pump. That should have fixed the noise, right? Nope.
After sleeping on the problem, I woke up the next morning and took the serpentine belt off, then started the engine. NO NOISE! So I shut it off and spun all the components run by the serpentine belt. Sure enough the alternator was making the noise.
Moral of the story. Buy yourself a mechanics stesecope and with the 3.5 liter Honda engines, it's not always the tensioner.
