As of late the Chifi market has launched several collaboration IEMs!

It's a good thing as on the one hand it means the said collaborators ,have gained sufficient respect by manufactures that want to have a product with their names on it while making the market push for higher quality products!

However I see that we can run the risk of seeing many "copy paste" products that are different only on the shape and colour!
One thing is for sure , the consumer is ultimately the one that will benefit the most!

Enter the TRI HBB Kai, the latest IEM of the HBB family, of which the Mele and Olina have thus far been the biggest successes.

It uses a 9.8mm DLC driver in a beautiful gold colour shell with the most gorgeous faceplate with the indigo colour on it.
it's a true testament that good taste can exist at lower prices!

Fit and comfort are for the most part a non issue and for the asking price of 79usd there's no true negatives.....perhaps a blue Indigo cable!

But what's the deal with the sound, that's what matters?
Well it follows HBB preferred curve and thus is tuned better for rock, rap, although truth be said it's pretty capable with classic and vocal centric genres.

Personally I would have liked a little more extension ....a little more air , but the tonal balance, timbre and quality of the bass are more than sufficient to justify saying it's a better iem than the Mele and that although its not on the level of the Olina, the bass of the Kai is at times more satisfying than the Olina.

I would say that the Kai is a IEM that does not impress on first listen , but give it a few minutes and listen to a few songs and you soon see where it shines.

So does it mean it's capable enough to bring down the market favourites?
Well all depends on what you like , but if I pitch the Kai against the TinHifi T3PLUS, there are a lot more similarities than differences with the T3 edging out the Kai on overall extension and ability to creat that sense of air.
Technicalities are also slightly superior, so I prefer the T3 overall.

The story is pretty much the same with the Moondrop Aria , the Aria being still for me one of the most capable iem in regards to its midrange performance.....vocals and instruments are impeccably reproduced!

By no means does this mean the Kai is bad ....no it's a different flavour.
Much like the Dunu Titan S will be suited for the folk that are crazy for vocals, the Kai finds its crowd in those people that like a IEM that tonaly is correct with great bass and don't want to bleed from excessive highs.....yes I think that's the best way to position the Kai.

Worthwhile mentioning is that the Kai benefits from carefull source selection, Tri TK2.... Questyle M15 ..... Shanling UA3 being my preferred choices!
