The brightest star at the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association's #BeastlyBall gala on June 4, 2022 was one who was there in spirit only—the late Betty White. During the evening's program, Ball host Joel McHale shared about acting alongside Betty on his show #Community. "It was not just amazing to watch her work," he said, "I was thrilled to learn that the real Betty White was exactly how you’d hoped. She was effortlessly funny, incredibly generous, and a big fan of hot dogs." He added with a smile, "So, she would have loved it here tonight," gesturing to where Ball restaurant partner Pink's Hot Dogs was serving Betty's favorite "Naked Dog." In addition to Joel McHale, CEO and Zoo Director Denise Verret, GLAZA President Tom Jacobson, Betty White Conservation Hero Award recipient Stephen Badger, and surprise guest Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti all shared personal anecdotes about Betty and her lasting and loving legacy. And, more than a few members of the audience teared up during this video tribute “narrated” by Betty herself.
