a. Ancestral Property: Concept of Ancestral Property
Property inherited by a Hindu from his father, father's father or father's fathers' father, is ancestral property. Any property acquired by the Hindu great grand father, which then passes undivided down the next three generations up to the present generation of great grand son/daughter

b. Self-acquired Property: Self-acquired property is the one acquired by the father through his own efforts and not inherited from his ancestors. In the case of self-acquired property, the father can decide how to distribute the property among his legal heirs, including sons, through a will or other legal means.
