NBC’s new Drama Rise is a drama based off of the book ‘Drama High: The Incredible True Story of a Brilliant Teacher, a Struggling Town, and the Magic of Theater’. Yes. That is the whole title of the book. It follows Lou Volpe, who is a drama teacher who does what the title suggests, incredible things! Though Lou is gay in real life, his show counterpart is a straight family man. What effect does straight-washing have on the LGBT community and the show’s audience as a whole?
