NOTA is a feature in Indian Elections that gained immense popularity when they were 1st introduced by the Supreme Court's mandate in 2013. People thought it would make political parties put forward respectable and clean candidates in elections in place of goons that we have been seeing for past many years.

But over time the buzz around NOTA has faded away a lot and nowadays voting for nota is often considered as an 'waste of vote'.

What went wrong? Why a provision that was meant to be a positive reform in the democratic fabric of the country ended up being a political gimmick at best?
