In search of Wōden - Exploring Sacred Landscape in Wiltshire

Wēsaþ gē hale ond bēoþ wilcuman! Grab a drink and pull up a mead bench.

Evidence of the great, heathen god of the Anglo-Saxons, Wōden, can be found in theophoric place names. There are several places in England whose names can be traced back to Wōden. The presence of these names associated with Wōden may indicate that these were once sites which were sacred to this god, where shrines once stood, and the Cult of Wōden flourished.

In this video, I am exploring a beautiful area in Wiltshire, where a cluster of Wōden place names may indicate such a sacred site.

So, please pull up a bench, raise your horn, and take a step back in time with me to the days when the Old Gods were worshipped from the top of every hill and the people lived in harmony with the spirits of the land. Despite some people claiming that the heathen religion did not survive the migration, I aim to demonstrate how the pagan faith persisted among the ordinary people.
