A Look at API Economy Trends in 2024

A talk given by Bill Doerrfeld from Nordic APIs at the 2024 Platform Summit in Stockholm, Sweden.

As in previous years, the API economy continues to evolve with new practices and exciting possibilities. In this presentation, I’ll look at some of the most pressing trends in 2024, from API design to API business, that are affecting our niche (yet important) economy. I’ll highlight some top API economy trends, like:

– New description languages and specifications and what they’re enabling.
– The burgeoning role of AI in API design and management.
– The state of API security breaches and novel vulnerabilities.
– Platform engineering, cloud-native, and the role these have in enhancing developer experience.
– Trends around documentation, SDKs, and how the API consumption experience is changing at large.
– A look behind API-first models and the business drivers behind these initiatives.
