Jinx Davis, an Oregon grown singer-songwriter living in Portland, died November 3, 2006, age 59. Born September 5, 1947, Jinx grew up in Portland and Eugene graduating with a B.A. in English at University of Oregon in 1969. Folk music, singing and dancing were his passion. His profession was nursing for 32 years at Good Samaritan, Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Kaiser Sunnyside, Willamette Falls Hospital and Portland Veteran's Administration Medical Center, as a quality improvement officer.

He wrote a collection of folk songs, published in two tapes, Oregon Country and Songs of Oregon and a single Christmas Time in Oregon.

His songs celebrated the people, places, and rain in Oregon from "Quiet Thunder" about Eastern Oregon to "John Templeton Craig" who built the road that became McKenzie Highway 242.

Jinx supported many regional folk music events and helped save the Weiser Fiddle Festival when the land used was about to be sold. He organized a drive and helped make a permanent campsite for the annual Festival.

A profile of Jinx was published in The Register-Guard newspaper after the release of OREGON COUNTRY in 1984. Ken O'Connell, a close friend and professor at the University of Oregon, collaborated with Jinx to produce the animated film OREGON COUNTRY, 1989.

Jinx is survived by his partner of 21 years, Julia Marie, his son Dylan, his daughter Camille, two grandchildren, his mother Martha, brothers Jeff, Nathan and Tim, and sisters Lucky, Jenny, and Shannon.
