Istanbul Turkey - A Cruise Day Visit 2024
One of the stops on a recent cruise in August 2024 was Istanbul Turkey. The ship pulled into port and docked in the city near transit service lines. The day was bright and sunny with a nice breeze and moderate temps. Our plan was to use public transit trams to visit the Blue Mosque and then return to visit the Taksim area for a sampling of local foods and just absorbing the sights and culture. Unfortunately, we didn’t have lots of time with the ship arriving at 7:00 and departing at 17:00. Istanbul is magnificently beautiful an huge. We were sure that 8 hours would not be enough but on a cruise schedule, that’s what you get.
We did get to the Blue Mosque but ran out of time for other attractions. We never did get to Taksim or the Grand Bazaar which has over 4,000 stands & shops. We did manage to stop at a Greek café to sample some specialty food items.
We would definitely like to come back to Istanbul for a few days, but with airline connections and not cruise ship schedules.
