THE SQUARE OF SILENCE is a European war short film set in occupied Eastern Europe during World War II (1942–1944).
The film does not depict a battle.
There are no heroes.
There are no explosions.
Instead, it focuses on a real moment drawn from the history of occupation:
a village square, where civilian women are forced to kneel for hours on cold stone, their hands bound with rough rope, under the silent supervision of German Wehrmacht soldiers.
No charges are read aloud.
No sentences are announced.
Only time, silence, and fear are used as weapons.
Through 75 short scenes (each lasting 8 seconds), the film reveals:
Psychological terror under military occupation
The humiliation and physical exhaustion of civilians
How war destroys human dignity even without a single shot fired
What remains after the soldiers leave: an empty square and survivors who are no longer the same
The film is created in a cinematic documentary realism style:
Historically accurate WWII locations, uniforms, and weapons
No background music — only real, physical sound
No romanticization, no eroticization, no fictional embellishment
Respectful toward the victims, while refusing to soften the brutality of war
THE SQUARE OF SILENCE is not a story meant for entertainment.
It exists to remind us that:
War does not need bombs or gunfire to destroy people.
