Bataan Province in the Philippines has a rich history, marked by pre-colonial origins, colonial rule, and a pivotal role in World War II. The province's early inhabitants were the Ayta Magbeken people, with later migrations of Tagalogs from southern Luzon. Bataan was officially established in 1757 from territories of Pampanga and the corregimiento of Mariveles. During World War II, the Bataan Peninsula became a crucial battleground where U.S. and Filipino troops fought bravely against the Japanese. The surrender of Bataan and the subsequent Bataan Death March were significant events in the war's history.
