明治維新、日清戦争、中国大陸による戦闘での殉死者を合祀する目的で、1929年4月に行われた靖国神社臨時大祭の記録。26日の天皇行幸に際しては、晩年の東郷平八郎元帥や直後に起きた張作霖爆殺事件の奏上問題で辞職した田中義一首相らの姿を間近に見ることができる。また、当時の横綱常ノ花の参拝や、余興として開催された奉納剣舞や土俵の周囲を観客が埋め尽くす相撲の様子も収められている。

「フィルムは記録する ―国立映画アーカイブ歴史映像ポータル―」では、1922年から1936年までに製作された49作品を新たに公開いたします。この時期の前半は、文部省製作による秀作や長篇の観光映画などが注目されますが、満州事変勃発以降の作品になると、軍事色の急速な高まりを伺うことができます。国立映画アーカイブでは、今後も随時公開作品を増やしていく予定です。ぜひサイトをお訪ねください。

The third edition of this site presents 49 additional titles covering the years from 1922 to 1936. While the earlier years see some masterworks produced by the Ministry of Education and a feature-length tourism film,the selection after the Manchurian Incident represents the rapid growth of militarism.
