Spanish composer Manuel de Falla plays two of his Pieces Espagnole (Spanish Pieces) recorded on Welte roll # 2770, No. 1: Aragonesa and No. 2: Cubana, recorded about 1913. De Falla recorded only two rolls for the Welte system—this one and its companion recording of Spanish Pieces Nos. 3 and 4. The Welte system with its fluid expression system well captures the impressionistic style of de Falla's playing, who was influenced by his acquaintance with Ravel, Dukas and Debussy while living in Paris from 1907 to 1914. The piano is a 1921 Baldwin model C Welte Licensee 6'2" grand restored in early 2020 at Historic Pianos.
