After leaving the Business of Software Conference, AgilityFeat CEO/Founder Arin Sime shared one last thought on #EnterpriseAI, and why 95% of #GenAI projects are failing in the enterprise.
Claire Lew is the founder and CEO of Canopy.ai, and she gave an excellent talk on "The Blind Spots That Break Us - What Leaders Are Missing Most in the Age of AI".
She shared a quote from the Project NANDA and MIT study in July that said "the 95% failure rate for enterprise AI solutions represents [organizations that] continue investing in static tools that can't adapt to their workflows." Claire explained that this means companies need to "instead of merely adapting workflows, reimagine your workflows all together."
We agree completely, and this is certainly a classic failure of many IT initiatives and digital transformations, where a company tries to change their processes to fit the tool they bought a license for. It's why the #agile manifesto declared so many years ago that we should value "Individuals and interactions over processes and tools."
This got me thinking about custom #LLM integration work. If you are trying to add AI into your business in a commodity workflow (ie, something like a backoffice process that does not create direct value to your users), then buying an off the shelf AI tool is perfectly fine, and probably the optimal path. I'd even say in that case it might be ok to adapt your processes to fit that tool (though beware).
But for your core proceses, the ones that are customer facing and which provide differentiating value from your competitors, you should not be looking at any off the shelf AI solution. You should be looking at custom integrations of LLMs into your workflow. Although that is more complicated and expensive then buying a tool, if you pair up with experts like our team at AgilityFeat and WebRTC.ventures, who have experiencing integrating AI and VoiceAI into business workflows, then it's certainly worth it.
These are the areas where you need to make sure that you are not investing in static tools built to serve a wide variety of use cases, you need to build something unique to you, that highlights your unique value proposition in the marketplace. You might also need to look at more complex architectures including custom trained LLMs, RAG, edge based architectures and more. And if you're working voice interfaces or Voice AI into it, it's all the more complicated (but also potentially valuable).
Don't try this at home without expert guidance! We would be happy to apply our experience at LLM integration to your unique needs, contact us at AgilityFeat.com
