Can You Work Around the Special Tools on VW 1.8L Turbo Timing Chain? Volkswagen 18.L & 2.0L

Today's question is, can you work around the special tools that Volkswagen has for the timing set-ups on the 1.8l & 2.0L engines? VW shows 6 different tools that are needed to properly replace the timing kit on these engines. We do recommend these tools if you have the means too, however they are not required for this job, at least, we made it work without them.
We did get creative however & used things like a brake caliper compressor to remove the oil control valve, a urethane bushing for the crank spacer and a few other little tricks that made this job a breeze.
