Riding the Bus 24: From Hampstead Heath to Pimlico on a Rain-Washed Autumn Afternoon

There’s something magical about catching the 24 Bus after a London rain. Starting at Hampstead Heath, the air still heavy with the scent of wet leaves and earth. The red double-decker looked freshly washed by the drizzle, its sides glistening against the grey sky. Inside, the windows were misted over, and everyone had that cozy, post-rain look.

As we rolled down from the Heath, Camden was alive even in the drizzle—market stalls steaming, puddles reflecting neon signs, the buzz of the city humming back to life after the rain. From the top deck the world felt slowed down, raindrops still clung to the glass as we turned toward the West End, where autumn light began to peek through the clouds.

By the time bus reached Trafalgar Square, the city had shifted. The pavements shimmered, lights glowed in the puddles, and the streets were packed with people — laughter echoing off the wet stone. Passing Westminster, the golden hour arrived in full force. The Houses of Parliament glowed against a streak of fading sky.

When the bus finally reached Pimlico, one of the London’s famous neighbourhood. the air was calm and cool. The Thames reflected it all like liquid bronze, leaving behind that unmistakable London freshness, feeling like just watched the city breathe—quiet, shining, and alive again.
