Many people make the mistake of removing the kickdown linkage and never reinstalling after they swap a new carb or intake on. Without a kickdown setup, you're just asking to prematurely burn up the transmission. This controls line pressure within the transmission and is essential to making sure lubrication goes where it needs to be.
This video shows the process for setting up a cable style kickdown. This particular cable can be bought from Amazon or Ebay for roughly $30. The official Lokar branded cables, abet much higher quality, run well over $100. In any event, they both can be installed in a similar fashion.
