Set in the 13th century, Padmaavat is a grand historical drama based on Malik Muhammad Jayasi's epic poem. The film follows the legendary Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), the stunningly beautiful and courageous queen of Mewar, married to the noble Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor). When the ruthless and power-hungry Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) hears of Padmavati’s unmatched beauty, he becomes obsessed with possessing her, leading to a brutal siege on the fortress of Chittor.

As Khilji’s army surrounds the kingdom, Ratan Singh fights valiantly to protect his honor and his people. However, when defeat seems inevitable, Padmavati chooses self-sacrifice over surrender, leading the women of Chittor in an act of mass Jauhar (self-immolation) to protect their dignity from Khilji’s cruelty.
