Moving To The Scirocco Apartments In Fira - Driving To Emporio, Karterados & Monolithos Beach

🇬🇷Travel diary vlogs from our two week vacation in Santorini Greece last July where we stayed in Pyrgos, Fira, Vothonas & Oia. We are a family of 4 on this trip: myself and my husband and our two teenagers who fell in love with santorini! We hired a car for the whole two weeks and travelled all over the island while escaping the crowds most days! We hope you enjoy watching and hope to show a different side to the overpriced and too crowded Santorini you may have read about 🇬🇷


Days 4-5
It was accomodation change over day on day 4 where we packed up and left our beautiful cave villa in Pyrgos and move over to the Scirocco apartments in Fira which would remain our base for the following 11 nights. Myself and Jon stayed at the Scirocco in 2016 and absolutey loved it! It has a large pool, basic clean and amazing caledra view balconies plus it's situated in one of the owest part of the caldera in Fira which means - stunning sunsets views, less crowds and reduced noise from above!
We moved into our new apartment (no 17) then drove over to Emporio village for a wander around and lunch. Emporio is a very quiet traditional village and in my opinion, the most photogenic village on the island! Most tourists remain around Fira and Oia with only a handful travelling by car to visit these villages which was still a surprise considering it was July ! Later that evenng we walked around Fira town which was super busy!! Wow so many people!! We had to walk in a single line holiding on to each oher so that we wouldn't leave anyone behind but...we got used to it and the teens thought it was 'cool'. We ate at Mama's Kitchen off the main street in Fira and there were only a handful of table occupied which was great! We all enjoyed our meals which came to around 60-70 euros for the 4 of us - main meal and drinks.
The following day, we ate breakfast at Magma City cafe which was to become a regular place to eat then headed off to Karterados - a small traditional village around a 5 minute drive away from Fira in search of St Mary's church which had a unique red dome! Afterwards, we drove to East Breeze Bar where by day its a very quiet beach side cafe/bar and by night in the summer months its a lively beach club. We drove over to Monolithos beach near by for a swim - this beach was amazing! It was so shallow, clear and calm and it had proper black sand! There were lifeguards present and the beach is know as a family beach - it was very quiet when we were there. We are lucj at a nearby restaurant then headed back to fira.
We had booked a table at Volkon On The Rocks for 8pm which was around an 8-10 min walk across the caldera towads Firostefani. We originally booked to eat food while watching a film in their outdoor cinema ( they give you headphones) however, we found out the film would be an extra 15 euros each so cancelled that and just went for food. Kamari outdoor cinema is not to be missed and a 'proper' cinema and cheaper! The views from Volkon On The Rocks was breathtaking and we ate a selection of meze dishes while the sun set towards Oia.
