Negotiation is a generic human activity that can take place every day. In other words, almost everyone negotiates. Essential knowledge and skill of negotiation are of great importance for international diplomacy and conflict resolution. The objectives of this undergraduate, Mandarin-taught course are to understand how international negotiation occurs, what strategy and tactics one should bear in mind before/during/after negotiation, what key factors can influence the process and outcome of international negotiation, as well as how international conflicts can be managed through various forms of negotiation. It is hoped that both practices and preliminary theories (models) of international negotiation can be identified and familiarized by the students who need a better grasp of foreign policy decision-making and intercultural negotiations in international relations. This course may have a few weeks for on-line (long-distance) lectures, depending on the COVID impact.
