Frédéric François Chopin or Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin (1810 – 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era. Chopin dedicated this nocturne to his sister Ludwika Chopin: “To my sister Ludwika as an exercise before beginning the study of my second Concerto". It was composed in 1830 and published in 1870. The nocturne is performed by Felix Bader on Chopin’s favourite model made by Pleyel in 1847, which has been lovingly restored by Mr. Pollreiß. This piano is exactly the model Chopin used to have in his flat in Paris and is now located in the Chopin museum in Warsaw! Camille Pleyel, famous piano builder in Paris, was a close friend of Chopin from 1831 until 1849. The composer said about Pleyel pianos that they are “the non plus ultra”. Chopin dedicated Camille his 24 Préludes later during his stay at Valdemossa/Mallorca. Furthermore Chopin explained his choice for Pleyel in saying: “When I feel out of sorts, I play on an Erard piano, where I easily find a ready-made tone. But when I feel in good form and stong enough to find my individual sound, I need a Pleyel.”
