This was one of the scariest days I’ve had in the backcountry. Ray and I were out riding when he had a serious crash that ended with a broken hip and back. We had to call in a Life Flight helicopter to get him out.
Thankfully, he’s on the road to recovery now — but it was a heavy situation and a big reminder of how quickly things can change in the mountains.
Later, Cal and I went back to recover Ray’s sled. This video covers that whole journey — from the crash to the recovery mission.
