Restoring a 100 Gran Sport 'Marianna' Using 3D Modelling - Back to Classics

This time we are literally going 'back to the drawing board' for the restoration of a very rare 1955 Ducati 100 Gran Sport. We will show you how we develop and create parts, even when there is very little to go on. In this case, the wheels that were fitted to this 'Marianna' racing bike were far from original. Harné and Will discuss how new parts are developed using all the information and pictures they can lay their hands on. You will see Will drawing up parts and assemblies in Solidworks to give you an impression of how we can re-create the bike as it was back in 1955.

The particular bike we're currently restoring is an early 1955 100cc version and as you will see in this video, there is still a huge amount of work ahead of us! Be sure to follow our channel so you can see new episodes as we gradually restore this bike to how it was at the start of the 1955 MotoGiro d'Italia.

The Ducati 100 and 125 Gran Sport 'Marianna' racing bikes were very successful in the Italian 'Gran Fondo' races of the 1950s. They dominated the classes they were entered into in every year they competed. It was the genesis of Ducati as a producer of racing motorcycles and its development lay the foundations for all future Ducatis to come. In fact, there is so much to tell about the Marianna racers, that we will go into more detail in a separate video soon.
