Whitwell & Reepham Railway Rail 200 Cavalcade Gala | 27th September 2025

Well, its finally the weekend of Rail 200, exactly to the day of the 27th September the first service on modern railways began on the Stockton & Darlington Railway. Would I travel up north to Darlington to see the recreation run from Shildon to Stockton using Locomotion No.1.......... nope!

Instead sticking local and heading to the only railway celebrating Rail200 during the actual weekend was the Whitwell & Reepham Railway. A small quarter of a mile heritage railway in the middle of Norfolk which offers break van rides up and down their short stretch of track.

This gala would use 4 locomotives based at the railway, 3 diesel and one steam. 'Agecroft No.3', 294266 'Sir William McAlpine', D1171 and 466629 'Tipockery' were seen hauling a mix of break van rides (which is the passenger services) and demonstration freight sets, which were made up of whatever they had in the yard during the gala which was great to see.

The gala also featured a cavalcade of the 4 locomotives running together, but during my short time there I didn't catch it so unfortunately I missed out on the gala's namesake!
