Make Watermelon Sugar Hi! Cold Process Soap With Me.

Hello everyone!
My name is Chrissie, And I'm A Messy Soaper. . . . .ehem! wrong meeting!
Hi I'm Chrissie, The owner and creator of all things bubbly, colourful, fun and yummy looking here at SoPea Bath & Body. I hand make fun and relaxing bath and body treats in small batches and all of which are formulated for those with sensitive skin in mind.

I'm based in the UK, I have a full time job as an emergency worker and SoPea is my passion, hobby and my release from all the stresses of the day job.

Today I have created this video with my FIRST EVER Voice Over!! I was so nervous. I had no script, I had no idea if I would sound 6 years old. Just winging it is my fave thing to do! Well maybe not my fave thing to do, but if i am stuck of what to say or do and I'm scared, i just go for it and hope for the best.
I hope you enjoyed it, I certainly enjoyed making it at 2am with hubbie in bed and me on the sofa editing this video.

So back to the soap. This is my Watermelon Sugar Hi! soap made using the cold process method. This is where we take a selection of oils and butters that have their own unique properties such as bubbliness, creaminess, bar hardening and longevity properties amongst others, we melt them down, mix in a caustic substance called Sodium Hydroxide, also known as Lye, along with distilled water (mine is home distilled, because I'm a glutton for punishment!) to dissolve the Lye and this caustic solution is then added to the melted oils and butters. fragrance, colour and add to the mould. Once its hardened overnight you can then cut it the following day. you can even use it the following day but its likely to melt away quite quickly so we leave it to cure which just means evaporate the excess water from the soap over a period of time to it becomes a nice hard longer lasting bar of yummy soap.

This particular soap has REAL, yes real watermelon in it. so a few hours before i chopped up a big watermelon, blended it up, strained out as much of the pulp as i could so i was left with just the juice and then froze it into cubes . we have then added the lye solution. We (as in the royal we) free the watermelon as the watermelon is full of natural sugars and if we put the lye crystals into the watermelon straight away it would likely scorch and overheat. and that's No Bueno. it can also be dangerous as we are working with a high lye concentration.

I love making soaps that have the look and feel of the thing that's in them but to represent the "thing" in an abstract way. which is why you will rarely see my making any soap canes to look like seeds or the like.
I see my soaps as usable art. And anyone that says "they are too pretty to use" noooo, just buy two then, one to look at forever and the other to use! haha! i don't make soap to just sit on a shelf, this is why us soapers take so much time selecting the perfect blend of butters and oils and perfecting our technique. We WANT you to use the soap!

Ooh we went off on a side quest then! This will happen a lot around here. Not only have i got a busy work life and SoPea life and family life, i also have the joys of having ADHD which makes things very tricky to manage and deal with from time to time BUT you do get to go on a magical mystery tour of Chrissie Mind Waffle. But we usually come back to the point eventually!
