1992 में बंगाल के जिले नदियाया का गांव फूलिया सुर्खियों में था. एक गूंगी-बहरी लड़की के दुष्कर्म की खबरें अखबारों में आ रही थी. दुष्कर्म किया था सीपीएम के एक कार्यकर्ता ने. उस पीड़ित लड़की को साथ लेकर एक साधारण सी दिखने वाली महिला सीधे रायटर्स बिल्डिंग की ओर बढ़ रही थी, जहां तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री ज्योति बसु रह रहे थे. पुलिस ने उस महिला को रोका, उसके साथ बदतमीजी की और बाल घसीटकर बाहर फेंक दिया.

In 1992, Phoolia village of Nadiaya district of Bengal was in the headlines. The news of the rape of a deaf and dumb girl was appearing in the newspapers. The rape was done by a CPM worker. Taking the victim girl along, an ordinary looking woman was heading straight towards the Reuters Building, where the then Chief Minister Jyoti Basu was staying. The police stopped the woman, misbehaved with her and dragged her hair and threw her outside. Exactly 18 years later, that woman again reached Reuters Building and this time she was the Chief Minister. The name of the woman demanding justice for the victim was Mamta Banerjee.
