Indian silver exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw a sharp sell-off on Thursday, with prices dropping by as much as 20% in a sudden turnaround. The fall erased the extra premium these ETFs were trading at compared to global silver prices and the domestic physical market, as investors rushed to exit amid high volatility in precious metals. In early trading, the Nippon India Silver ETF, ICICI Prudential Silver ETF and Kotak Silver ETF declined around 19–20%. Their market prices slipped below their indicative net asset values (iNAVs), showing that what was earlier an unusually high premium quickly disappeared and turned into a discount.
