The Art and Science of Mudras - A Session by Prof. DVS Iyer.
Prof DVS Iyer, 95 years old describes his journey in learning the ancient science of Mudras and his personal experiences. The science of mudras is a part of the Yoga shastras and have been a part of our Indic culture for a long time. An almost forgotten and aften ridiculed science, Mudras have seen a revival of sorts in the last few years, as a part of the alternative/wholistic medicine movement.
Though Prof. Iyer's introduction to Mudras was a sceptical one, the experience and results left him awestruck and inspired him into deep personal research and experimentation. It is these personal experiences and knowledge that he shares in the session.
They say that one's health is in one's own hands. While this adage has different layers of meaning, it represents a clear choice between the path to purposeful/mindful well being and to that of illness. Hands also represent the power to heal - physically and mentally. They are a source of tremendous power and are one of the most defining features of our human body associated with dexterity, sensitivity and utility.
Healing in itself does not require an initiative external to the body. The moment there is an imbalance in the health of the human body, it triggers an in-built self regulatory system that fights back to maintain balance. This in-built healing is greatly assisted by Mudras.
A simple "namaskara" with folded palms is a Mudra ! Hasta Mudras are specific and special postures formed by positioning of the fingers in one's hands by touching, beinding or interlocking.
This refreshing and genuinely awakening session by Prof DVS Iyer will bring to you 1) Understanding Mudras 2) Their use in daily life 3) How to use various mudras and their effects on our body.
