Fluoro-Richterite
Gibson Road East, Tory Hill, Haliburton Co., Ontario, Canada
Size: 4.9 x 3.0 x 1.7 cm
A unique specimen of fluoro-richterite, with a narrow doubly-terminated twinned crystal set in a broader doubly-terminated un-twinned crystal. These crystals are sharp and lustrous with great form. In excellent condition, small chips. This is so aesthetic, almost an arrangement reminiscent of Excalibur, the sword in the stone. A wonderful fluoro-richterite!

About These Fluoro-Richterites
These fluoro-richterite specimens were collected from the calcite vein-dike occurrences near Tory Hill, Ontario. Specimens from each of these occurrences have been analyzed by Glenn Poirier at the Canadian Museum of Nature (using electron microprobe) and confirmed to be fluoro-richterite. Although fluoro-richterite specimens are rare on a global basis, the Tory Hill occurrences are quite rich in the mineral. Even so, excellent crystals are not common. This series of occurrences has produced superb specimens, including the world’s best of the species. Indeed, these crystals are great for any amphibole species! (The amphibole group is often overlooked by collectors of fine minerals because so many crystals are not collection-worthy.) Many of these specimens have required lots of prep work to present at their best.
