前線工作としての鉄道事業という視点から、北満各地における活動を2年に及ぶ撮影によってまとめ上げた叙事詩的大作。馬賊らによる破壊活動や河川の氾濫により被害を受けた線路や橋梁の復旧作業、車両の整備、新線設置に伴う土地整備や架橋工事などが、力感溢れる画面によって綴られている。
「フィルムは記録する ―国立映画アーカイブ歴史映像ポータル―」では、1922年から1936年までに製作された49作品を新たに公開いたします。この時期の前半は、文部省製作による秀作や長篇の観光映画などが注目されますが、満州事変勃発以降の作品になると、軍事色の急速な高まりを伺うことができます。国立映画アーカイブでは、今後も随時公開作品を増やしていく予定です。ぜひサイトをお訪ねください。

The third edition of this site presents 49 additional titles covering the years from 1922 to 1936. While the earlier years see some masterworks produced by the Ministry of Education and a feature-length tourism film,the selection after the Manchurian Incident represents the rapid growth of militarism.
