This is my tribute, on the eve of the 76th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, to the brave men who fought fascism in the hedgerows of Normandy in the summer of 1944.
This, my first diorama, depicts a fictional mission, featuring the Ranger squad led by Captain Miller (Tom Hanks character in ‘Saving Private Ryan) of the 2nd Battalion. You can, if you look carefully spot Pfc Reiben from Brooklyn, Sgt. Horvath, and Private Mellish, with the rifle grenade.
The timeline for this mission is the few days between the landing on the 6th June, and their fateful mission to find Private Ryan.
Having heard the sound of a German tank doing it’s early morning engine warm up, together with an infantry support team, are about to take the enemy by surprise.
A Panther tank from the SS 2nd Division, together with troops from the 243rd Static Infantry Division (Wehrmacht), are stationed at a crossroads at a village not far from the Omaha beachhead.
