This English Sports Car Is a True "Holy Grail" for Enthusiasts | TVR Tuscan S | Jay Leno's Garage

Jay Leno gets his hands on a rare English sports car, a TVR Tuscan S, and meets with TVR Garage's Will Gavin and the car's owner, Mike Welling. Jay is a huge fan of the car because TVR developed its own engine, the "Speed Six", rather than using a common outsourced motor. The fiberglass-bodied car weighs only 2,300 pounds and has a 4.0-liter, four-valve, twin-cam straight-six engine that produces 390 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The engine's cylinder head is wide because it was based on a motorbike engine design and features finger followers for the camshafts.

Will explains that the car is one of only three in the United States and that only around 1,600 of them were ever built. Mike shares his "love affair" with TVRs, explaining that this is his second Tuscan, and he even bought this one sight unseen because of its pristine, fully restored condition and brand-new engine. Jay and Mike take the car for a spin and are impressed by its power and the way it handles.

The episode delves into the history of TVR, from its beginnings building cars in a shed in Blackpool, England, to its struggle to survive in a difficult economic climate that also saw the demise of other supercars like the McLaren F1.
