"Portrait of a Young Man was a silent 16mm film of three reels. Rodakiewicz considered adding sound to the film but decided that musical accompaniment would only be saying the same thing twice" - Harry Dartford
Released in 1931, the film consists of images recorded and edited by Henwar Rodakiewicz from early as 1925. The present version was remastered from the digital source available.
The musical score added was composed and performed live in 2018 by the Mello-Beis duo, Santiago Beis and Thiago Mello. Using vinyl records, the musical material originates from the spatial treatment of these diverse analogue sounds, where time, repetition and textures are used to create a dialogue between abstraction and organicity.
