Description
Incisors: Located at the front of the mouth, these eight teeth (four on top, four on the bottom) have a sharp, chisel-like edge. Their primary function is to slice and cut food.
Canines: Situated at the "corners" of the dental arches, these four teeth (two on top, two on the bottom) are pointed and are the longest teeth in the mouth. Their role is to grip and tear food. They're often called "eye teeth" because of their position under the eyes.
Premolars (Bicuspids): Located between the canines and molars, these eight teeth (four on top, four on the bottom) have a flat biting surface with ridges. They are used for crushing and grinding food. Children don't have premolars; they develop as permanent teeth.
Molars: Found at the very back of the mouth, these 12 teeth (six on top, six on the bottom, including wisdom teeth) are the largest and strongest. With their broad, flat surface, they are primarily responsible for grinding food into small, digestible pieces.
