I Kissed Purity Culture Goodbye

Did you grow up with any of these messages?
That's too much skin for her to be wearing to school/work/in a professional setting
Boys will be boys
Saving yourself for marriage will make sex AMAZING
Dating is practice marriage
Courting is better than dating
Guard a girl's heart

These and many others are the messages of purity culture. In 1997, Joshua Harris published a book called I Kissed Dating Goodbye, which became the vehicle for much of the mainstreaming of purity culture into teen spaces, at least in a way that was more overtly talked about.
