Dr Akmal Hussain, born in 1949, is an economist by training and currently a distinguished professor of economics at BNU, Lahore. He talks about how his journey towards economics began with Sufi mysticism and poetry. It opened his eyes towards the social and economic inequality around him. Dr Hussain discusses his time at Cambridge University, where his worldview was further expanded through peer interactions. Dr Hussain’s varied life experiences have shaped his dynamic personal and professional practices.
The Oral History Project is an ongoing initiative of The Citizens Archive of Pakistan, aimed at preserving Pakistan's history and culture through the voices of its people. Using the tradition of oral storytelling, the project focuses on the importance of such narratives in creating a platform for national memory.
