US Warns China Can Sink Its Entire Carrier Fleet “in 20 Minutes,” Seeks Abrams Tank

China has deployed several naval vessels—including a destroyer, frigate and spy ship—near Japan and into the wider Western Pacific, shortly after the arrival of US aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in the region. Japanese forces tracked the Chinese ships as they passed through strategic waterways, including the Osumi Strait, heading toward the Philippine Sea.

The manoeuvres follow growing concern in Washington over China's expanding naval power. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that Beijing’s hypersonic missiles could destroy multiple US carriers within minutes, stating that China is “building an army specifically designed to destroy the US.”

Meanwhile, the Pentagon is fast-tracking its next-generation M1E3 Abrams tank to counter advanced Russian and Chinese platforms. The new tank, designed for agility and survivability, aims to regain the battlefield edge in future Indo-Pacific conflicts.
