An opportunity I will unlikely receive again, was to sample the 23:00 LNER HST service from Newcastle to Sunderland, which arrived in from it's starting point at London Kings Cross.
Hauled by "Spirit of Sunderland" 43274 & LNER 43290, I took the opportunity to have quite a long tour around most of the train, on it's last service of the day.
The LNER Sunderland services are incredibly unreliable, with regular cancellations due to late running throughout the route. This has put me off using this service, because of how inconvenient the departure times are, and with cancellations if the service is delayed by more than 15 minutes...
If this service is retained in 2020, then the brand new Class 800 Azuma will operate this section, although however is significantly pointless considering the regular low usage of the service, and with later Transport options available between Newcastle and Sunderland.
I personally hope the service is retained as it's a nice service to have, and in 2020 I hope to sample the Class 800 Azuma along this section, hopefully getting an empty train.
