Solar powered irrigation helps farmers in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

Water scarcity is threatening the livelihoods of farmers in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh where the irrigation cost is very high, and farmers struggle to access water for food production.
In response, FAO installed solar powered improved irrigation systems that reduce carbon emission and water loss. In collaboration with Bangladesh’s Department of Agricultural Extension, FAO will replicate the initiative across the country to promote sustainable transformation of agri-food systems.
