Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Thule Xsporter Pro adjustable-height ladder rack on our 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. This is gonna be a great option for you if you work in an industry where maybe you have to bring larger, longer loads with you more frequently, like ladders or lumber, or maybe on the sports and rec side of things, you wanna get a kayak up on your truck or you can lower it down in the case of the Xsporter so it can be more aerodynamic and you're gonna have more options of what you wanna load up in there. Let's check it out. This rack is able to support up to 450 pounds so it can hold a lot of weight, depending on what you wanna get on here. It's also super easy to adjust, which is kind of what sets it apart.
To do that, all you're gonna have to do is loosen up these two gears. There's one on each upright so we'll start with this one over here. Loosen up the other one as well and you might wanna try to go from the middle as well as you can 'cause if you start to put pressure on one side or the other, they tend to stick. But from here you can see how easy it is to push down and raise back up if I wanna make those adjustments. From here, we can take a closer look at the numbers.
So each one of these represents a different stop that we can adjust the rack to up to 32 different stops. So it's super easy to make those micro adjustments to accommodate whatever gear you wanna put on here. It's also really easy to tell which side of the left or the right of your system is on the same height so it's easy to make sure that those match, as well as the front and back crossbars. The crossbars that we're gonna be using on this ladder rack are going to be 72 inches long, so they span the width of the bed without extending too far to add on any width to your actual truck overall. So it's gonna be a ton of room to get things on here.
Again, without adding any sort of unwanted distance on the sides. These crossbars have a nice taper to them so they're going to do a good job of cutting through and minimizing some of that wind noise. Granted, anytime you have something like this, you're gonna hear a little bit of that, but that taper, combined with the weather strip that also comes with this are gonna help minimize that if you choose to use that. And we have the Aero load stops as well. They're super easy to change back and forth just using this hand knob here to accommodate different-sized loads as well.
To secure the ladder rack in place, there are four fully-welded mounting rails that set on the rails of your truck bed. They're held in place by two clamps, one on either side. In this case we do have the locking clamp featured right here. It's got a lock core in it that's going to secure the clamps to the rails. And also down here we have a locking end cap on the same side, which is going to secure your uprights inside so no one can just loosen up these gears and pop the ladder rack out from there. The whole ladder rack system is composed of an anodized aluminum so it's gonna be really lightweight but still sturdy and durable. It's got a nice black powder coat finish so it's gonna hold up really well to UV rays, rust, weather, corrosion. It's gonna be on there, it's gonna be really secure and it's going to be able to accommodate most of your accessories, especially if they're able to fit into the T-track track channel. But if you do have some specific accessories that don't fit, you might need to pick up the Xadapt adapters to make them work. But overall the system does take a little bit to install. It's gonna take a little bit of patience and a little bit of knowhow, but luckily we went through that process and broke it down for you so you can check out how we did that. For the install, the first thing we like to do is just sort of lay everything out and make sure we have what we're gonna need. So we have the actual feet for the towers, we've got the clamps, we've got our base pads here, we've got all the hardware that we're going to need including bolts, washers, and all the locking mechanisms and the keys. We have the tops of the clamps, both sets
