7. Kyrie y Gloria - Caitro Soto - The Master of the Afro Peruvian Music

Todos los negros que habitan América llegaron desde el África, o al menos los primeros. Los que se afincaron en el Perú, ocuparon los valles de la costa, desarrollando labores agrícolas, a la vez que entonaban cánticos hoy casi perdidos, para evocar con tristeza pero también con alegría, esos parajes lejanos que ya nunca más volverían a ver sus ojos.
Uno de los hijos más ilustres de este movimiento migratorio que arrancó siglos atrás, es Don CAITRO SOTO DE LA COLINA, con él la música negra afro peruana, llegó a su clímax total. Fue durante muchos años y mientras vivió entre nosotros, el Embajador Peruano de la Música Negra. Fundador del movimiento cultural llamado “Perú Negro”, que trascendió toda frontera, para llevar los ritmos de dos mundos (el africano y el peruano), a una escala de universalidad jamás alcanzada.
Cajonero de Chabuca Granda, la acompañó siempre a sus giras, conciertos y grabaciones discográficas, hasta que ella se le adelantó para cantar en el cielo, los valses peruanos como solo ella sabía hacerlo. Años después de que partiera su hermana blanca, el hermano negro la alcanzó, para el deleite de los ángeles y la tristeza de los terrenales.
Este probablemente sea el único disco que grabara CAITRO SOTO como solista, él puso sus manos y su voz, para dejarnos este ramillete de canciones únicas, que hoy compartimos con el mundo.
Resulta difícil encontrar una palabra que resuma el significado de su obra, la más cercana que se nos ocurre es, TRASCENDENCIA.

All Blacks living in America came from Africa, or at least the first ones. Those who settled in Peru, in the valleys of the coast, developing farming, while chanting songs, now almost lost, to remember with sadness but also joy, such faraway places that their eyes would never see again.
One of the most illustrious sons of this migratory movement that began centuries ago is Mr. CAITRO SOTO DE LA COLINA; with him the Afro-Peruvian music reached its full climax. It was for many years and while he lived among us, he was the Peruvian Ambassador of the Black Music. Founder of the cultural movement called "Peru Negro" (Black Peru), which transcended all boundaries to bring the rhythms of two worlds (the African and Peruvian), at a universal scale never achieved.
Cajonero (cajon player) of Chabuca Granda, he always escorted her on her tours, concerts and recordings, until she passed away to sing in the sky, the Peruvian waltz as only she knew how. Years after his white sister departed, the black brother also passed away to the delight of the angels and sadness of the earth.
This is probably the only album CAITRO SOTO recorded as a solo; he put his hands and his voice, to leave us this unique bunch of songs that we share with the world.
It is difficult to find a word to sum up the meaning of his work, the closest we can think is TRANSCENDENCE.
