Summary:
The passage of SB 5536 reclassified drug possession as a gross misdemeanor, eliminating the requirement for diversion. As a result, attorneys in courts of limited jurisdiction are now handling drug cases, whereas knowledge of controlled substances was previously more common in felony practice. This training equips indigent defense practitioners with foundational knowledge on Central Nervous System Depressants and Stimulants. It covers the types of drugs, their effects on the body, how they function, and how to interpret state toxicology lab reports.
