Boston's culinary scene would not be what it is today without its proximity to the sea, and the strength of the ever-evolving relationships between local farms and Boston area restaurants.
Meet Skip Bennett, Founder and Owner of Island Creek Oysters. Skip was born in Duxbury and raised among a family of commercial fisherman, starting his own shellfish farm in 1990. Today Island Creek Oysters has grown to include several farms, one of very few hatcheries in New England, a wholesale operation, distribution to over 700 chefs nationwide, and a robust ecommerce platform.
‘Island Creek Oysters would not be where it is today without the unwavering support of Greater Boston’s restaurant community. In Duxbury we always say, “The rising tide floats all the boats.” I think that rings true for the culinary community as well. Boston chefs opened their kitchen doors and welcomed me in, and since then Island Creek has been really lucky to become Boston’s local oyster farm with placement on so many raw bar menus throughout the city.'
