Mexican recording artist Thalia gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Mexico's 'Queen of Pop' Thalia was honored with the 2,514th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame late Thursday morning (5 DEC. 2013) accompanied by her husband and music executive Tommy Mottola.
Mottola and Thalia recently renewed their wedding vows after 13 years in St. Patrick's Cathedral.
"So in 1998 when I was the person lucky enough to meet Thalia after a short period I found out that there were two things that she as a child and an actress and a musician growing up were here greatest dreams," said Mottola. "One was to get married in St. Patrick's Cathedral which happened and the other one of course was to get her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame which is happening today."
Hundreds of fans lined up as early as 3 am to catch a glimpse of their favorite star.
"I want to thank all of you, the fans," said Thalia. "All of you guys that you are like a family to me. I know that many of you traveled from a long time to be here."
Thalia was also surprised to find out she made history.
"And I think you should know you are the first female singer born in Mexico to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame," said the President of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Leron Gubler.
"For me it's a huge honor as a Mexican to be able to represent all Latin women from all over the world doing big things. This honor isn't only mine but all of ours," said Thalia.
Thalia, 42, has been known to be very protective of her two kids and although they weren't present, she made sure to address them in her speech.
"I want to thank from my soul, my kids, Sabrina Sakae, Matthew Alejandro for giving me so much life," said Thalia. "To my husband Tommy, for being that strong column in my life, for loving me so much and because we are one unity and we adore each other."
She became emotional when she also spoke about how hard her mother fought for her to get a star on the Walk of Fame. Thalia said it was her dream to get a star since she was only seven years old. She admits her mom began to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1990 to convince them her daughter should get a star. Her mother Yolanda Miranda, died in 2011 from heart disease.
"This day I have a star in the sky (points to the sky) and I have a star here and this star is for her (cries)," said Thalia. "Thank you. As a mother, as an artist, as a singer, as a wife this is a dream that becomes reality today here in this moment."
Thalia has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and has had 28 Top 10 singles, 15 of which went to No. 1.
