Cargo Noir — How to Play 🎲 and Why It's a Gem 💎

In Cargo Noir, players send out their ocean liners to various ports, bidding underground currency gold coins (John Wick before John Wick!) for sundry illegal goods. Don't sell those goods, that money's traceable! Instead, trade sets of them in for warehouses and ships to expand your criminal empire, and yachts and nightclubs to be the king kingpin.

This game from Serge Laget and Days of Wonder didn't set the world afire when it came out in 2011. The smuggling theme's promise of intrigue doesn't come through in the gameplay, and its unusual structure may not lend itself to a good first play. Several plays will reveal a cutthroat auction game in which Every. Bid. Matters.
