Bullet Trajectory
Trajectory: path of the bullet from the barrel to the point it hits the target.
Due to simple physics the path will be a parabola.
Line of Sight (LOS): A straight line represented by the aligned front and rear sights of a firearm
Line of Departure (LOD): Also a straight-line, but this runs down the center of the bore of the firearm
Internal Factors that Influence Bullet
Projectile velocity (most important factor affecting the trajectory path)
Spin of bullet
Angle of fire
External Factors that Influence Bullet
Gravity
Drag
(Air resistance)
Wind Force
Projectile Drop
The effect of gravity on a projectile in flight is often referred to as projectile drop or bullet drop.
It is important to understand the effect of gravity when zeroing the sighting components of a gun.
To plan for projectile drop and compensate properly, it is important understand the projectile travels in a parabolic shape.
Drag Resistance
Mathematical models, such as computational fluid dynamics, are used for estimating the effects of drag
Empirical measurements offer the most reliable method of determining flight trajectories.
