We Swam in a Sinkhole in Mount Gambier… and Regretted It!

We swam in a sinkhole in Mount Gambier on the Limestone Coast… and regretted it! It was SO cold. To recover, we reward ourselves with some wine tasting in the famous Coonawarra wine region, and then we hit the road for the final stretch of our lap of Australia! 😮

We start this adventure in the small coastal town of Robe, South Australia, and it’s beautiful. First stop: The Obelisk (honestly worth the trip just for that!). Then we drive to Mount Gambier to explore the famous sinkholes... 👀

We kick things off at Caroline Sinkhole, then head to Hell’s Hole (the scariest sinkhole EVER) … and finish the day at Blue Lake, which is absolutely HUGE.

Day two in Mount Gambier starts at Cave Gardens, a sinkhole right in the centre of the city, but it was unfortunately pretty dirty with a lot of rubbish inside. Next up: Umpherston Sinkhole (one of the most famous in Mount Gambier) and it was such a treat 😍

Finally, we head to Little Blue Lake… the COLDEST lake we’ve ever swum in 🥶 Oh, and we also saved Dodger from drowning 😅

Our last two stops are Port MacDonnell (including the southernmost point of South Australia at Cape Northumberland, and we spotted seals!) and then the FAMOUS Coonawarra wine region… known for its Cab Savs / Cabernet Sauvignon (safe to say Josie is excited). We start at DiGiorgio Family Wines and finish at Wynns... they did not disappoint! 😆

Lastly… we leave South Australia and re-enter Victoria for the final stretch of our lap! South Australia has genuinely been one of our favourite states, and we really didn’t expect it… we’ll be back 🤍
