The 12647 / 12648 Kongu Express is a Superfast weekly train run by Indian Railways between Coimbatore Junction and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The train was named after the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu, called Kongu Nadu. The train made its inaugural run on 3 April 2000.
The train starts on Wednesdays from Nizamuddin, and on Sundays from Coimbatore, covering the total distance of 2,716 kilometres in approximately 46 hours. before COVID Curfew, this train was operated via Dharmapuri, Hosur but rerouted via Bangarapet after lockdown.
The Kongu Express has rake sharing arrangement with the train no. 12681/82 Coimbatore–Chennai Central Superfast Express. Despite its long-distance run of 46 hours, the train continues to operate without a pantry car and food gets loaded onto the train at en-route stations.Both trains are hauled by Erode-based WAP-7 electric locomotive from Coimbatore Junction until hazrat Nizamuddin.

The train has standard LHB rakes with max speed of 130 kmph.

Coimbatore Junction railway station (station code: CBE) is a railway station located in Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the major rail-head in the city and comes under the jurisdiction of Salem railway division of Southern Railway zone. It is one of the busiest and highest revenue generating stations in India. The station lies on the Jolarpettai–Shoranur main line and has six side platforms.
Train service in Coimbatore started with the opening of railway station at Podanur in 1862 as a part of the Podanur–Madras line connecting the west coast with the rest of India. Coimbatore junction became operational on 1 February 1873 after the construction of a branch line connecting Podanur. It was started as a halt station for the Coimbatore–Mettupalayam branch line. Until 1956, the Coimbatore Railway Division was functioning with Podanur as the headquarters before the headquarters was shifted to Olavakkode which became Palakkad railway division. The station became part of the newly formed Salem railway division in 2006. Coimbatore is among the top hundred booking stations of Indian Railways. As of 2023, it contributes to nearly 45% of the revenues of the Salem railway division and is classified as a NSG-2 station (annual revenue between 100 and 5 billion rupees and 10–20 million passengers handled).
The station lies on the Jolarpettai–Shoranur 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) broad gauge main line with other lines branching out from Coimbatore North and Podanur junctions. The station is connected with following railway lines:

The station has six platforms and handles about 165 trains daily. It is one of the 73 stations in Tamil Nadu to be named for upgradation under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme of Indian Railways.

Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station (station code: NZM) is part of the Indian Railways network. Located in South Delhi, it is operated by the Delhi division of the Northern Railway. Serving as one of the five primary railway stations in the Union Territory of Delhi, it handles nearly 250 trains daily. Christened after the medieval Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, the station was revamped to alleviate congestion at the New Delhi railway station.
Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station serves as a key connection to major cities and was developed to alleviate congestion at the New Delhi railway station, which is located about 7 kilometres to the north. It is the origin and terminating point for the premier Rajdhani Express trains heading to Bangalore, Chennai, Secunderabad, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram.
The station is connected to the Delhi Metro network via the Sarai Kale Khan Nizamuddin metro station on the Pink Line. It is also linked to the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT that provides long and short-haul bus services to neighbouring states. The upcoming RapidX station, Sarai Kale Khan, located in close proximity, will serve as the origin for semi high-speed regional transit services, connecting the station to neighbouring cities and enhancing connectivity across the National Capital Region. Once services commence, the Sarai Kale Khan region will serve as a multimodal transportation hub.
