Brain metastases or lesions
are brain tumors that occur in about 20% of newly
diagnosed cancer patients.
These lesions are typically the result of cancer
being present somewhere else in the body.
When a brain lesion is suspected,
the next step is a consultation with a neurosurgeon,
oncologist or neuro-oncologist
to determine treatment options
which usually fall into three categories:
surgery, medical therapy and radiation.
And while all three forms
play important roles in treating brain lesions,
depending on the patient's diagnosis,
cutting-edge technology has advanced radiation therapy
to deliver a new level of effectiveness,
convenience and hope.

for radiotherapy and radiosurgery.
HyperArc is a form of radiation therapy
to treat brain metastases usually
and brain metastases is spread of cancer
from where it started to the brain,
and frequently, this can be one, two ... even 10 or 15, 20 lesions
or spots on the brain
where the cancer has spread,
and this hyper arc is a way of treating that –
that is the most advanced technology that we have today.
This is very fast,
very efficient and also very safe
and what it allows us to do is
treat the areas we want to treat
while sparing everything else.
Your normal two to three-hour treatment has become a 20-minute treatment
I think that should have a profound effect
on the patient experience
when they come to see us for care.
We can not only hit multiple lesions
but we can hit lesions that are really
difficult areas that a surgeon could never reach.
And so with this radiation,
therapy is just one setting.
The machine rotates, moves, moves the table
moves the patient.
They just stay in one spot – the same spot – the whole time.
There's no head frame holding their head still.
In about 15 to 20 minutes,
you can treat up to 10 or 15 lesions.
About 80 to 90 percent
of the tumors will be controlled locally
and will not come back where we've treated.
It almost renders some cancers a
chronic illness like diabetes.
With this technology,
we give our patients something they didn't have before,
and that's more time –
often extending their time from
months to even years and
having those years have a quality of life
they didn't think they were going to have,
and this wasn't possible before and
now we are able to give that to them.
Anytime we get something that buys patients
years of life
in addition to what they would have had without it
it's exciting for us,
but probably even more exciting for the patient.

center in the country or in the world
and get better care
than what you can get right here.
